Paranormal frauds

In the paranormal field, much as with any field people cross your path that present themselves fraudulently. This ranges from evidence to stories, years of experience and many other fabrications. The issue is its here and not going away anytime soon.

As you meet new people you'll always have people that will prop up their resume to seem like they've been doing it longer or done different events, etc. The problem with the paranormal field is that there really is not a way to verify what someone is actually claiming. Its not like you can call to check references really, even if you get a number to call the reason for that person leaving may illicit a bad response from the previous organizations. The result of this is people who have been claiming to be in the field for 10, 20, 30 years, when it may actually be 5. Now is that a continuous time, or did you do an investigation 10 years ago and now you're claiming 10 years? Now there are those that say these amounts of time and are completely honest about that, the.unfortunate thing is some people ruin it for everyone else.

Then we come to those like Aron Houdini, or Brian Harnois and a host of others (some will not be named) who choose to rip off supporters and fans. People who are frauds and steal from others is what gives the paranormal field often a bad reputation.  I am not going to go into details about these two as everything I have read about them may or may not be true, they are just the ones in the headlines. The key to anything is just to be honest about your experience and your intentions. If someone is expecting you to do something or be somewhere especially if you have been payed for it, be there! This is also why there are places that won't let teams book, or wont unless they jump through hoops just because these places have been burned by these frauds. Even events like the one that happened in Tombstone not too long ago, where a big group of people were supposedly duped for a lot of money when the event planner failed to show for the event.

We can also talk about those who are on TV, or write books and articles. Those on TV that fake evidence or spice it up just for entertainment purposes are just as bad. They fool everyone into thinking that what they do is real, which in turn makes everyone think that's what investigating the paranormal is really like. They then become celebrities and can sell their crappy merchandise, and get payed to attend conventions, and other appearances. Not saying they are fake, but it calls into question shows like Ghost Hunters, Mountain Monsters, Haunted Collector, Ghost Adventures, Deep South Paranormal, Ghost Hunters International and many other shows of the same nature. Even if they are real everyone automatically assumes its fake, including myself.

Next would be those who sensationalize what happens on their own cases just to sell their stories. This tends to happen a lot, due to people wanting to "cash in" on the paranormal hype in society at the moment. As stated earlier, it makes it hard to know who is telling the truth, and people who are telling the truth are often looked at as liars.

What is the public to do? For one, don't tolerate it, let the person or people know that we will not stand for fraud to be perpetrated on unsuspecting people anymore!

In The Land of Demonology

On TV they're cool, mysterious, and see the most disturbing things. They're able to tell you what your dealing with and how to do it. They even sometimes claim to be exorcists. The difference is figuring out who is real and who is not.

Demonology or Demonologists. The paranormal sensation on television has created a huge rise in this field. Of course if you are interested in the paranormal beyond ghost hunting, and you are trying to help those afflicted with evil spirits then you should know the basics. The issue we have with people knowing the basics is that they start referring to themselves as Demonologists when they are in fact..not. Real Demonologists and Exorcists are trained by a church of whatever denomination they are. They undergo years of spiritual training and have unwavering faith, and are trained by others who have years in the same field.

All too often what is done is someone will read a book or two, have little to no knowledge and then claim to be the real thing. While I agree that if you are in the field pursuing the spiritual aspect, then yes you absolutely should have knowledge on the subject. That does not make you a Demonologist. I know it sounds and looks fancy next to your name, but a time may come when someone will come to depend on you due to that title. Its something you need to be careful about calling yourself. You may enter a demonic case and not have the proper tools and knowledge necessary to battle said entity. In that case, you may end up getting yourself hurt, or others around you.

To those of you who dont really remember...there is more than a few religions. Sure there are the few major religions of our time Catholic, Christian, Muslim for example. What about those that are older? Pagan. By Pagan I mean those that have more than one God, most of which predate Christianity. Egyptian, Babylonian, Sumerian, just to name a few. Granted, depending on your geographical location, you probably won't encounter some of these older ones, but people need to realize that not every Demon would be responsive to the name of Jesus Christ. In Arizona where I reside, a great number of land belonged to Native Americans thus such knowledge of Native spirits would be beneficial. If you are only familiar with the Demons of Christianity and Catholicism, then you would call yourself as such or inform others of your specialty.

Even though I tend to approach cases on a scientific basis from the start, still spend some time studying this subject, as well as reading about other religions including Wicca, Hinduism, Satanism, Buddhism, etc but I would never claim myself to be a Demonologist nor an Occult expert. It just helps to have some knowledge in these subjects. Also, even if your interest is strictly Christian, Jewish, Islamic, you should know the basic misconceptions of each major religion. By Misconception I mean the rumors and lies people have been told to believe by parents, religions, friends. You can literally spend weeks combing through the misconceptions just in Christianity. Being able to separate fact from fiction is key when peoples lives hang in the balance.

Now if you are interested in reading about this subject, there are some books you can try. The trick with anything in the paranormal field is weeding through the crap and bookshelf fillers they sell in the bookstores.
One of the most famous tomes are is that has been written is The Goetia.  Again, I suggest studying for knowledge purposes only, as practicing whatever is contained without following the proper guidelines could be very harmful.

Like any other subject Im not going to write a book here so please make sure to be responsible and do your research. Unlike those who get into Ghost Hunting just for the thrill, seeking Demons is not for the faint of heart. This should be left to those that are extremely faithful in their religions.

Sanctuary No more

We all tend to do it. Believe that what we see on TV is actually the way things happen. We forget that things are swayed to be more entertaining or details getting left out due to time constraints, etc. You dont get to see the after effects of what doing this does to some of the personalities at home.

We watch all the Paranormal shows on TV that trivialize 'ghost hunting' and make it look as if its safe for just anyone to purchase some equipment and go investigate! While I do encourage people who are curious to decide and find things out on their own, I do caution everyone who is interested in doing this. Please do some research before doing your first investigation. Look into what can happen when spirits and demons follow you home. It is not pleasant. Your sanctuary gets taken away from you and your home turns into a battleground. Instead of going to places to investigate and then just being able to leave and go home, you are now confronted 24/7.

Contact any serious Paranormal Investigator or Paranormal Team and Im sure that at least a few of them can regale you with stories of spirits following them home. Im sure that none of them are good. I've met several people that have been dealing with this for years. Some cases are small. I myself have been touched, heard footsteps, banging and had food thrown. That's really nothing compared to what you'll hear from others. Especially if you have children at home. They can be an easy target for spirits.

Now please dont think Im trying to scare you away from doing this. Im just trying to make you aware of the potential life changing events that can arise from this lifestyle. If you do decide to pursue this, take caution and the necessary steps to protect yourself. Blessing yourself and holy water does not protect you from spirits following you home.

You need to know that every time you go out on an investigation, or to a private home to help, you are putting yourself in danger. There are many life long investigators that choose to live alone due to the danger of spirits following and hurting the ones they love.

Please be careful, and happy hunting.

But Seriously..There's a Fun Side

We all like to have fun. We all like to laugh and have a great time with friends. If we didn't, why would we need to leave the house?

Everyone would have you believe that during investigations, and after that everything has to be so serious. SSH! We have to be serious or the spirits wont communicate! Which most of us should know that that's not true whatsoever.

I know among all the bickering about what is real or not, what we can debunk, equipment, I think we all lose track of what this is to most people. A Hobby. We are supposed to enjoy hobbies. Anyone who is in a group or has been, knows that this is a hobby that can turn into a lot of work, time and money being wasted. But there should still be fun involved somewhere.

No matter where we're at, Im goofy. Its a natural thing, because I love to laugh. Many times I have a song stuck in my head so you might catch me kinda dancing. Say what you want, But Im just trying a new experiment! Yeah Yeah that's what Im doing! I'm trying to get a spirit to come dance with me. Now I dont do this on purpose, as too much fun will indeed ruin an investigation and I'm sure your group will get deemed as unprofessional. I'm just saying that if something funny happens, well life happens. People laugh. That's the spice of life and I enjoy letting it happen. If you watch our videos on YouTube  you"ll frequently catch me tripping or bumping into something. Sorry I don't edit things out, so you might deem it unprofessional. I don't. That's the way I am.

Now I know some of you have stories about your funny moments or your "paranormal" body functions that have happened at the wrong time. Hey its okay to laugh, sometimes for ten minutes. Yes get your senses back and continue on, but you now have a life long story.

Just dont forget why we got into this in the first place. Whether its ghosts or UFOs, we do this to satisfy our curiosity and to have fun while doing it.  I don't think the Aliens would mind if you're laughing while watching them. How do you know ghosts aren't laughing at you stumbling around trying to 'catch' them? So my question to you would be

WHY SO SERIOUS?
