Please know how to use a KII

Hey it’s our favorite paranormal tool! It proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that spirits exist....Hate to ruin your moment in the sun, but while this can be a useful tool for the paranormal it does not prove anything in the way of spirits. Before I start getting emails from people trying to prove otherwise let me explain.

KII meters or EMF detectors come in many shapes sizes and forms. They all serve the same purpose. I've heard explanations like the one with the lights is for ghost hunting while the other ones are used for measuring EMF. Well, unless you have one that dismisses the A/C portion they all do the same thing. Yes the lights make it easier to see with the lights out. There are many different types of meters, and before you buy one you need to understand something. They have different ranges. Some are more sensitive than others, some are better used stationary than others, some need to be calibrated.

The most common KII meter used is the type with the colored bulbs that increase when EMF is nearby. These are good for finding areas with high EMF fields but the drawback is that you can’t tell how high as there is no graph to show you.
Many people use these to try to communicate with spirits, and fly off the handle when it spikes. "Ghost!" maybe. Probably not. Why? Well these meters are sensitive to everything from cell phones, radios, garage door openers, Wi-Fi and a whole range of other things you'd never guess. I have demonstrated this to people before by using a cell phone nearby. If you're like me I cannot turn off my cell phone, so if you're holding a meter and you receive a text it can make your meter spike. A very common thing today is for places to have wireless internet. Well, Wi-Fi can make your meter jump as well. Always something you should ask before you investigate.

There are those meters than are more expensive. What are the differences? Ranges and the difference between Single Axis and Tri-axis meters. Tri axis will catch more than your standard meter, but do cost usually over $150. But read carefully as some of these meters need to be calibrated and they are charged for.

The best one I've seen is the Mel Meter. It has an EMF, Temp gauge, light and a whole host of other tools. It does need to be calibrated but the company does it for free. This tool can be found for a whole range of prices but I still recommend researching.

Make sure before you spend your hard earned money on equipment, make sure you do your homework and not just buy things because you've seen it on TV or your friends have it.

The moral to this short outburst is to ensure we are using the tools provided to us the right way, and know that just because it goes off doesn't mean it’s paranormal.

Sanctuary No more

We all tend to do it. Believe that what we see on TV is actually the way things happen. We forget that things are swayed to be more entertaining or details getting left out due to time constraints, etc. You dont get to see the after effects of what doing this does to some of the personalities at home.

We watch all the Paranormal shows on TV that trivialize 'ghost hunting' and make it look as if its safe for just anyone to purchase some equipment and go investigate! While I do encourage people who are curious to decide and find things out on their own, I do caution everyone who is interested in doing this. Please do some research before doing your first investigation. Look into what can happen when spirits and demons follow you home. It is not pleasant. Your sanctuary gets taken away from you and your home turns into a battleground. Instead of going to places to investigate and then just being able to leave and go home, you are now confronted 24/7.

Contact any serious Paranormal Investigator or Paranormal Team and Im sure that at least a few of them can regale you with stories of spirits following them home. Im sure that none of them are good. I've met several people that have been dealing with this for years. Some cases are small. I myself have been touched, heard footsteps, banging and had food thrown. That's really nothing compared to what you'll hear from others. Especially if you have children at home. They can be an easy target for spirits.

Now please dont think Im trying to scare you away from doing this. Im just trying to make you aware of the potential life changing events that can arise from this lifestyle. If you do decide to pursue this, take caution and the necessary steps to protect yourself. Blessing yourself and holy water does not protect you from spirits following you home.

You need to know that every time you go out on an investigation, or to a private home to help, you are putting yourself in danger. There are many life long investigators that choose to live alone due to the danger of spirits following and hurting the ones they love.

Please be careful, and happy hunting.

Can't We All Just Get Along?

Can't We All Just Get Along?

I touched on this subject briefly in a previous blog entry.Today because of shows like Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, and Paranormal State there are a plethora of Paranormal Groups. So to this we have thanks to give. We also have a big- WHY?

Now Im going on a limb here to assume the reason most of us got into this field is to either prove or disprove  the supernatural. Well there doesnt seem to be a lot of proving or disproving these days. These shows have given birth to the assumption based method.

Here is the definition in my own terms:
Assumption Method- Investigative means and "evidence" gathered that is derived from unproven techniques and methods to detect the paranormal.

We assume that ghosts change EMFs, leave messages on our recorders, appear as orbs, are cold spots, etc. People watch these shows and think that everything they see on them is correct and totally accurate. When they actually get to go on an investigation they're surprised to find out that this is sometimes like watching paint dry.

To answer another of the WHY? statements, take Twitter for example. If you follow groups, and even TV shows no one discusses breakthroughs or ways to further the research of the paranormal along. Instead what you find is really disappointing-Everyone is on trying to pimp their next video, or product for sale. Most of these TV shows wont even respond unless your asking about a product or telling them how much you love them (muah). Its almost like this has turned into the race to secure the next TV deal or book deal. Even the groups who have created new equipment, ways to investigate or have made a breakthrough won't share with you.  How are we supposed to do this? Its almost like this is clan versus clan for utter survival. Where did we go wrong?

I had an experience with this first hand the other day, when trying to keep in touch with ex members who decided to start their own group. In the interest of keeping the AZ Paranormal Community together as much as possible, I offered link exchanges, and maybe some info exchange. As a response I got the old cold shoulder and you have your group and we have ours old mentality.

The only way that the Paranormal is going to be explained is if we the Paranormal Community band together and get passed the 'Mine Get Your Own' Category. Information sharing is how things are done. Someone from another State may see something you've started from another perspective and BOOM we have a massive breakthrough. Please everyone get beyond the TV and Book Deals and remind yourselves why we got into this in the first place. We shouldn't even have to have groups, let alone groups fighting with each other. But Seriously..There's a Fun Side

We all like to have fun. We all like to laugh and have a great time with friends. If we didn't, why would we need to leave the house?

Everyone would have you believe that during investigations, and after that everything has to be so serious. SSH! We have to be serious or the spirits wont communicate! Which most of us should know that that's not true whatsoever.

I know among all the bickering about what is real or not, what we can debunk, equipment, I think we all lose track of what this is to most people. A Hobby. We are supposed to enjoy hobbies. Anyone who is in a group or has been, knows that this is a hobby that can turn into a lot of work, time and money being wasted. But there should still be fun involved somewhere.

No matter where we're at, Im goofy. Its a natural thing, because I love to laugh. Many times I have a song stuck in my head so you might catch me kinda dancing. Say what you want, But Im just trying a new experiment! Yeah Yeah that's what Im doing! I'm trying to get a spirit to come dance with me. Now I dont do this on purpose, as too much fun will indeed ruin an investigation and I'm sure your group will get deemed as unprofessional. I'm just saying that if something funny happens, well life happens. People laugh. That's the spice of life and I enjoy letting it happen. If you watch our videos on YouTube  you"ll frequently catch me tripping or bumping into something. Sorry I don't edit things out, so you might deem it unprofessional. I don't. That's the way I am.

Now I know some of you have stories about your funny moments or your "paranormal" body functions that have happened at the wrong time. Hey its okay to laugh, sometimes for ten minutes. Yes get your senses back and continue on, but you now have a life long story.

Just dont forget why we got into this in the first place. Whether its ghosts or UFOs, we do this to satisfy our curiosity and to have fun while doing it.  I don't think the Aliens would mind if you're laughing while watching them. How do you know ghosts aren't laughing at you stumbling around trying to 'catch' them? So my question to you would be

WHY SO SERIOUS?

Avoid Pitfalls of Equipment

Popular ghost hunting equipment. Made popular by TV. We all own some of this equipment. I do believe it has a place in this field, the only problem is that we totally rely on unsubstantiated equipment. This is what is called the Assumption method. Were assuming this equipment does what it says it does.

We can use this equipment to help assist with our investigation but because it is not scientifically proven to detect ghosts, we cannot totally rely on it. There is no proof that ghosts use electrical energy or leave cold spots. EVPs: I know this might make some of you upset. Although I have also captured voices on my digital recorder, there is no evidence these are spirits or ghosts. EMF detectors: these devices are used to detect energy output. Really calibrated to be used to detect the ranges in a dwelling, we assume that if it goes up when there is no energy that its a ghost.

The only pieces of equipment you can really use would be a camera, and camcorder. These could show hard evidence if a shadow figure shows or something moves. Even your eyes can play tricks on you if youre sitting in the dark. You will see shadows that aren't there. Then you're going to tell everyone about your personal experiences sighting shadows that weren't there. This would lead to claiming someplace is haunted when it indeed may not be. Even hearing things can play tricks on you as you may think you hear voices when its a ice maker.  I think the worst piece I've ever come across is the Ovilus. I understand the attempt to relay electrical signals into words, but more research is needed before I believe this can be used. Most of the time it spits out random words that people string together to make a sentence. You've seen these used on TV, and maybe even in your own group. There is usually one or more that does this, which again can lead to calling a place haunted when its not.

If all evidence is based off this equipment, the scientific community will never take this field seriously. We need to constantly trying new things and experiments. All it takes is to modify a piece of equipment marginally. Changing a flashlight to a touch lamp, or coming up with new ways to use whats already out there. Try investigating during the day, or leaving the lights on at night. This would eliminate seeing shadows that aren't there. It may not be as creepy, but it also gives a better chance to debunk the claim being able to see what you're actually doing. The more we know about the history of the equipment we use, the brighter the future may be as we can use the equipment properly and advance it the way the original inventor may have intended it. Read the history of EVPs. You may then realize that while the SB7 can be a good device, maybe a short wave radio that was used in some of the original experiments would be better. Instead of skipping through radio frequencies, all you really need is white noise on one station. This can even work with TVs.

Every time I'm asked what equipment someone should buy, I tell them a camera camcorder and some common sense. So let's keep this in mind when investigating and remember what they equipment you have actually does. Remember that TV is not real life, if it was we'd be able to jump from building to building, and always defeat the bad guy in style and get the girl.

Differences ghost hunting and investigating 11/7

To start, I would like to discuss the paranormal investigator, ghost hunter difference so people aren't confused, or even those of you interested in becoming investigators. There is a difference between the two. As most of you have come across this or our website because you have watched Ghost Hunters, or Ghost Adventures, or any other of the numerous ghost TV shows.

A Ghost Hunter is someone who is just interested in seeing ghosts. Whether just to prove to themselves that they do in fact exist, or to try and score themselves their own TV show (which I would estimate most people fall in this category). People in this category don’t usually last as long due to the fact that it can take a long time to see a "ghost" or "spirit". So most of the people here will pay to go to the places they see on TV hoping to see and hear the same things they did on TV. Well, I hate to disappoint anyone, but nothing is what it seems like on TV.  Much like reality TV if you really got to see Kim Ks life, you wouldn't watch because it’s not exciting to see. So they jazz it up for TV to get you to keep coming back week after week. Meaning, sometimes they create voices, or objects moving to make it seem like they caught something when in fact there was nothing. I would say sometimes it’s the equivalent of watching paint dry. You might investigate the same building several times and get nothing. Then, hey you catch an EVP or hear or see something. It is a very hit or miss field.

Sure Paranormal Investigators or researchers can also be trying to satisfy their curiosity of life after death, but  also there to help those plagued by the unknown. Researchers are also here to help further the field and develop better technology to better assist in communication. As some call the field assumption based investigations, researchers hope to turn this into a fact and proof based field. When I say assumption based I mean we are assuming ghosts are orbs, or EVPs are ghosts, or Ovilus work, etc.

Investigators are the ones who take emergency calls from businesses and families suffering from the paranormal in their lives. They respond in the hopes they can first debunk and then help the family. They collect evidence and decide whether or not there is something there, and then will go from there. I myself am a skeptic. I go into every investigation looking to debunk first.

To those looking to become investigators, please be aware that this is filed is nothing to take lightly. Even in a very commercial haunting, ghost can attach themselves to you and follow you home. If you are unprepared, they can really affect your life. While this field can be exiting, it can take a long time to get into a group. If it is something you are really interested in, do research, and stay the course and eventually you will find what you are looking for.
