Mirror Gazing

Practicing the ancient art of mirror gazing can be an informative and life changing experience. Mirror Gazing (Scrying), is the ancient technique of gazing into a mirror to try to bridge our world with the spirit realm. Mystics like Nostradamus used variations of this to see into the future, solve problems, and find lost things.

The first gazing was not done with a mirror but used a liquid in a clear or painted bowl or a still lake. It wasn't until sometime in the middle ages when mirrors were invented that mirror gazing started.

Variations of Scrying include smoke, ink in liquid, blood in liquid, obsidian stones, mirrors and any other reflective object. For mirror gazing an ordinary mirror can be used, but a black mirror is recommended by most practitioners. Candles should be lit somewhere in the room for light, but not in view of the practitioner.

Mirror gazing consists of having a thought, object or person in mind and staring into the mirror for as long as an hour. Patience is the key to mirror gazing. It may take up to months to condition your mind to stay on track while staring at yourself for such long periods of time. The idea is to enter a trance also known as the Hypnagogic state. Some sites will tell you to avoid blinking, others to blink. Stare at the mirror, but don't stare. Try everything out and finding what works best for you. The problem with entering the Hypnagogic state is hallucinations can occur. Much like sleep paralysis you can hallucinate without the ability to move.

Trying to view a deceased relative or loved one? It is believed that surrounding yourself  with photos and possessions will help trigger the effect. Concentrate on whatever is decided upon. People have claimed to have been hugged during this exercise.

If you're using this on a paranormal investigation, concentrate on the name of someone who used to be there if you know them. It may be hard to imagine a face if a picture is not provided. Also, unless you are adept in this, you may not see anything at all.

Much like meditation, mirror gazing takes extreme practice and patience. There are different ways of practicing with different results. Due to the resemblance to meditation, the question surfaces is conjuring or communicating during mirror gazing a real occurrence or a product of the subconscious mind? Perhaps further evidence that consciousness is not stored locally in the body?

Our minds:Paranormal projectors

Anyone who has been on paranormal investigations or has had paranormal experiences in their lifetime and have seen shadows or ghosts or heard voices probably believes in the paranormal. It is believed those who are not skeptical and are more open to the possibility of life after death has more experiences. It seems like those that are skeptical or don't believe don't experience the same activity as our believing brethren.

As Parapsychologists have been researching poltergeist activity for a long time coming up with two classifications. One is R.S.P.K, which is Recurrent Spontaneous Psychokinesis. R.S.P.K. involves someone who can inadvertently make things move, or project ghosts or shadows. The second is an actual ghost.

What if all 'ghosts' are nothing but projections? Most hauntings in homes that have paranormal activity that wasn't there before seem to be the projection of the people living in the home. Investigators seemingly agree that most hauntings appear to be the product of couples fighting, or an angry individual. Couples have stated that they have had no paranormal activity in their home until they started arguing and fighting. All of a sudden doors started banging, sounds were heard, and footsteps can be heard throughout the home. As soon as the fighting and arguing ceased, the paranormal activity also ceased.

There are also cases in poltergeist activity that are tied to angry or extremely emotional people. It is theorized that these people also project outward unknowingly when their frustrations reach a boiling point. It seems that when the person or people can fix themselves and project a positive attitude only then does the paranormal activity stop. This is why psychologists can play a major role in stopping the paranormal in people's lives.

Fear can also be a factor. If you are so afraid of the idea of ghosts or demons and you think about it all the times, can you in fact project them? If people are afraid of a plastic and cardboard Ouji board, then they are in fact giving the Ouji board power of their consciousness. When people fear things they leave themselves open to being controlled by them whether they are real or not.

Ghost hunting at celebrity places like Gettysburg with people that are open minded or believe in the paranormal can also create ghosts. People want to see something so bad that they can again project sounds or something to move that can be caught on camera.

The power of the brain continues to surprise us every day. People find that the mind is capable of things we never thought possible especially with regular mind exercise. So with this thought, can the mind be a paranormal projector?

Paranormal frauds

In the paranormal field, much as with any field people cross your path that present themselves fraudulently. This ranges from evidence to stories, years of experience and many other fabrications. The issue is its here and not going away anytime soon.

As you meet new people you'll always have people that will prop up their resume to seem like they've been doing it longer or done different events, etc. The problem with the paranormal field is that there really is not a way to verify what someone is actually claiming. Its not like you can call to check references really, even if you get a number to call the reason for that person leaving may illicit a bad response from the previous organizations. The result of this is people who have been claiming to be in the field for 10, 20, 30 years, when it may actually be 5. Now is that a continuous time, or did you do an investigation 10 years ago and now you're claiming 10 years? Now there are those that say these amounts of time and are completely honest about that, the.unfortunate thing is some people ruin it for everyone else.

Then we come to those like Aron Houdini, or Brian Harnois and a host of others (some will not be named) who choose to rip off supporters and fans. People who are frauds and steal from others is what gives the paranormal field often a bad reputation.  I am not going to go into details about these two as everything I have read about them may or may not be true, they are just the ones in the headlines. The key to anything is just to be honest about your experience and your intentions. If someone is expecting you to do something or be somewhere especially if you have been payed for it, be there! This is also why there are places that won't let teams book, or wont unless they jump through hoops just because these places have been burned by these frauds. Even events like the one that happened in Tombstone not too long ago, where a big group of people were supposedly duped for a lot of money when the event planner failed to show for the event.

We can also talk about those who are on TV, or write books and articles. Those on TV that fake evidence or spice it up just for entertainment purposes are just as bad. They fool everyone into thinking that what they do is real, which in turn makes everyone think that's what investigating the paranormal is really like. They then become celebrities and can sell their crappy merchandise, and get payed to attend conventions, and other appearances. Not saying they are fake, but it calls into question shows like Ghost Hunters, Mountain Monsters, Haunted Collector, Ghost Adventures, Deep South Paranormal, Ghost Hunters International and many other shows of the same nature. Even if they are real everyone automatically assumes its fake, including myself.

Next would be those who sensationalize what happens on their own cases just to sell their stories. This tends to happen a lot, due to people wanting to "cash in" on the paranormal hype in society at the moment. As stated earlier, it makes it hard to know who is telling the truth, and people who are telling the truth are often looked at as liars.

What is the public to do? For one, don't tolerate it, let the person or people know that we will not stand for fraud to be perpetrated on unsuspecting people anymore!
